A Modern House In Modern Village

modern house

A modern house in a modern village created with a focus on societal benefits. ZED designed worked to synthesize the various programmatic requirements into multifunctional elements of the initial residence. First, utilizing security concerns to provide flood protection and improve the ocean views. Second, bringing in the light while keeping out the heat without blocking the views. Third, employing architectural zoning that works with mechanical control systems and passive cooling strategies to minimize energy usage. The main living quarters are housed within a super insulated tube that can be separated from the rest of the house to minimize the cooling load during the night.

The extension of the tube beyond the glazing eliminates direct solar gain while a series of gills bring in appropriate amounts of light and air. A combination of glass walls with a louvered skin bring in plenty of light into the heart of the home while keeping out the heat. Thick masonry walls provide security protection while creating a raised plinth to lift the main area above potential flood waters.
